The national significance of
the events at Munfordville/Woodsonville was recognized in
1993 by the congressional Civil War Sites Advisory
Commission when it classified the battlefield as a class “B”
– a principal strategic operation of the war, having
“strategic character and national significance” and “having
a direct influence on [its] campaign.” The Battle of
Munfordville was the first stroke of Confederate General
Braxton Bragg’s 1862 Kentucky campaign. |

Ride the chairlift or shuttle
to the top of Guntown Mountain and step back into history.
Live entertainment, exciting gunfights, saloon shows, magic
shows, cave tours and a haunted house are all a part of the
family adventure that awaits visitors.
Visitors to Mammoth Cave
sometimes go away without learning of the colorful history
of the area. It is common talk that Jesse James, one of the
most notorious outlaws of almost a century ago, frequently
dodged the law in this very country.
In frontier days, this was
wild and rugged land, and the men who passed through were
just as rugged as the land.
Guntown Mountain is an
authentic recreation of that fascinating era. The town
itself is complete down to the last detail offering Jesse
James Museum of Gunfighters; Saloon Show; Music; Magic; and
Gunfights.
Moreover, the mountain is
the highest point in the Mammoth Cave area, and the view is
spectacular. When you come to Mammoth Cave, ride the scenic
chairlift to the top of Guntown Mountain and step back into
history. |

Situated in the
heart of downtown Glasgow, the South Central Kentucky
Cultural Center is dedicated to the preservation and
interpretation of the unique history and culture of “the
barrens”. The Center is housed in the historic 1928 Kentucky
Pant Factory. Visitors can explore the heritage of the
region from pre-historic times to the present and can
experience the life of a pioneer family’s furnished 19 th
century log cabin and farm. The drama of military history is
presented through artifacts from the Revolutionary War to
Operation Desert Storm. You’ll feel rather prim and proper
in the recreated Victorian parlor and bed chamber and you’ll
marvel at the progress of humankind through visits to the
physician’s office, the one-room school, the turn-of-the
century bank, and even the funeral parlor!
